Mistie Rebecca Atkinson, 32, blamed “genetic attraction”on why she felt compelled to track down her teenage son on Facebook to have sex with him, and now she’s going to prison for it, reports the NYDailyNews.com.

According to the Napa Valley Register, in May Atkinson pleaded no contest to incest, oral copulation, lewd contact with a minor and distribution of lewd material to a minor. She was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison.

“I don’t feel like I should have the charge of incest because there is something called genetic attraction that is a very powerful (phenomenon) that happens to 50 (percent) of people becoming reunited with a long-lost relative,” she wrote to the court.

Mother and son were reunited last year on Facebook and she allegedly began sending the teen sexually explicit messages and nude photos. Relatives of the boy found out about the relationship and Atkinson was arrested in a hotel in April. Her son was with her.

According to the News, ABC’s Good Morning America, some psychologists confirm the veracity of genetic sexual attraction (GSA) and claim that family members who are separated for long periods of time risk becoming sexually attracted to each other when they reunite.
