Last night, the 2012 BET Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, and let’s just say there were plenty noteworthy performances and moments!

Let’s start with the host…Samuel L Jackson and let’s stop there, because his opening act fell apart faster than Tamar Braxton‘s blonde weave in the heat.

We have to be honest, we were skeptical from the very beginning. We weren’t sure how Sam Jack would fit with the BET dynamic and our hesitations proved true when he and legendary filmmaker Spike Lee attempted to cover “The Throne’s” “N****s In Paris.” More like “Old N***s In Paris.” It was terrible…to say the least, but they laughed it off, so…what can you really say…

Jay-Z and Beyonce shared the front row with Kanye West and Kim Kardashian. Kim Kardashian looked like someone’s white friend who spent the night on a Saturday and was forced to go to Baptist church on Sunday. #AMEN

Forget about Kim Kardashian, let’s take a moment to reflect on Elle Varner‘s amazing ASSets and that strut in that fabulous dress.

& Now a Lil’ Mama moment from Wale:

Nicki Minaj had a break-through performance, that was later overshadowed by her “Step your d**k up” reference. We can’t help but notice how improved her stage presence has become. She even got her dance moves together, that body roll. Go ‘head Girl!

Kanye West got a taste of his own medicine when “The Throne” partner Jay-Z interrupted his speech but promised to let him finish. Kanye gave a very humble speech after accepting their award for “Best Group.”

After much anticipation, the Whitney Houston tribute started off with a heart-felt and touching memory from Mariah Carey. Mariah reminisced on the alleged beef between her and Whitney… how they worked together on the “Prince Of Egypt” and their diva moments people misunderstood.

Monica was the first to belt out a song for Whitney. Her voice was flawless and one of the best performances of the night! Brandy took to the stage next. But, that outfit, that routine–it just didn’t fit. Cissy Houston brought the crowd to tears as she sang “Bridge Over Trouble Water.” Chaka Khan closed out the tribute in a stunning gold gown.
