Miami rapper Rick Ross saw his life flash before his eyes yesterday when he was involved in a car accident after a botched assassination attempt. Former Rozay adversary “Freeway” Ricky Ross, the man who inspired the rapper’s moniker, gave an interview stating he wasn’t surprised at people trying to do a drive by on the portly rapper because he doesn’t truly understand the unwritten laws of the streets.
“Freeway” Ricky Ross is a former drug lord who recently lost his lawsuit against the rapper over the use of the name. He spoke to HipHopDX.com about the Maybach Music Group general being involved in a drive by and said things like this happen when a rapper rhymes about things he isn’t in complete understanding of.
“Freeway” Ricky Ross stated, “I’m not surprised that it happened given recent ongoings, when someone doesn’t understand the street rules they get confused and incidents like this can take place. I’m still dealing with ongoing litigation about something as basic as using my name and identity, that should have been dealt with properly a long time ago. We covered it in more depth in the Power of the Name Rick Ross piece.”
Although “Freeway” Ricky Ross lost the court battle over his name, he hasn’t given up the crusade. “Freeway” Ricky will be taking Rick Ross and Warner Bros. Records back to court in August. “Freeway” Ricky maintains the rapper and label have continuously “exploited and misused [his name] since he went to prison” and “made millions off [of it].”
