Do songwriters, producers and recording artists need to find new material? Is it time to reach further than drugs, violence and talking about “haters” in music?

According to Pharrell Williams, there really is more to life than what some have brought to radio and streaming services.

“I’m just in that place… because I feel like everything is so, ‘I’m super-mad! Cocaine! I’ll shoot you! These chicks is on drugs!’ And I just feel like there’s so much more to life, you know?” Pharrell shared in a recent feature in Vulture. “I grew up in an era when people would talk about everything, and even Kermit the Frog had a hit. Random sh*t, like, ‘She’s got Bette Davis eyes’—and that was a hit!”

All of that said, Pharrell is working on more uplifting songs as a producer on the forthcoming “Despicable Me 2” soundtrack.

“The music he’s made for the upcoming sequel is heavy on sprightly Motown sounds and psychedelic vocal harmonies,” reports Vulture.

As previously reported, Pharrell has a number of other projects in motion, including producing for Azealia Banks and appearing on the Style network series “Styled To Rock.” He’s also producing for Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus and “Talk A Good Game” singer Kelly Rowland. SOURCE
