Nearly four years after the fact, new details have surfaced surrounding actress Brittany Murphy‘suntimely death.

New toxicology results suggest that the actress may have been poisoned before her death.

Angelo Bertolotti, Murphy’s father, ordered and paid for authorities to retest samples of hair that reportedly belonged to Brittany. The toxicology reports showed high levels of toxic metals, including Barium – a metal used in rat poisons.

Murphy died in December of 2009; her cause of death was believed to be pneumonia and severe anemia. It was believed therapeutic drugs may have complicated her condition.

Displeased with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s findings, Brittany’s father fought for access to samples of her hair, which he claims were untested. According to the NY Daily News, Bertolotti reportedly suggested to the court that chronic arsenic poisoning is occasionally misdiagnosed as anemia.

According to court records, the case was dismissed permanently in May.

The hair samples were tested and found to have “safe levels of arsenic,” according to the Daily News. Her father was still not pleased, begging law enforcement to reopen the case.

“The lab has shown that she was poisoned with criminal intent,” Bertolotti told the Daily News. “We would like the investigation opened again to discover who did it. So as not to jeopardize the new investigation, I can’t say who I suspect as of yet,” he said.
