Hollywood is a tough business. One minute you’re in and the next you’re on the “whatever happened to what’s her face?” list. But if there’s one thing that can help entertainers in show business stay afloat, it’s having brains to back up the talent.

The nominees for the 45th Annual NAACP Image Awards were announced and the categories for Outstanding Actress and Outstanding Supporting Actress  In A Comedy Series was chock filled with gut-busting beauties who also have the brains to match. Take a look at some of the comediennes on the nominee list who know how to tell a great knock-knock joke as well as correctly solve for X.

Name: Aisha Tyler

Occupation: Actress, Comedian, Author and Co-Host of The Talk

Alma Mater: Dartmouth College

Why She Rocks: Although she earned her degree in government and environmental policy, Tyler who’s been described as “smart, sexy and effortlessly funny” went onto to voice the character of Lane Kane in FX’s animated hit “Archer” as well as showcase her impressive comedic -improv chops on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”

Name: Rashida Jones

Occupation: Actress, Comic Book Author and Screenwriter

Alma Mater: Harvard University

Why She Rocks: The daughter of Quincy Jones, Rashida could’ve spent her life focusing on an entertainment career, but she hit the books! In high school, Jones attended  the Buckley School in California (alongside the likes of Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian), and her classmates voted her “Most Likely To Succeed.”  She continued her educationg at Harvard to pursue her dreams of becoming a lawyers but became disillusioned with the justice system after the O.J. Simpson trial. Since then she’s gone onto star in NBC’s hit “Parks and Recreation” as well as co-wrote and star in the film “Celeste and Jesse Forever.”

Name: Mindy Kaling

Occupation: Actress, Comedian, Writer and Producer

Alma Mater: Dartmouth College

Why She Rocks: Just two years out of college, Mindy co-wrote “Matt & Ben” a play in which she played Ben Affleck which Time magazine called the “Top 10 Theatrical Events of The Year” as well as interned with Conan O’Brien. She did all of this before taking over the world with her hit Fox television show “The Mindy Project.”

Name: Wendy Raquel Robinson

Occupation: Actress

Alma Mater: Howard University

Why She Rocks: With more than 20 years in Hollywood, Wendy Raquel Robinson has been able to remain a constant fixture on television. While she started out on the cult classic “Martin” she became a household name when she played our favorite principal ” Regina ‘Piggy’ Grier” on The Steve Harvey Show. Now, as Tasha Mack on “The Game” she continues to give us just the right amount of sass and tough love that we’ve grown to admire from her. Oh, wait! Did we forget to mention that she graduated from Howard University cum laude? Yep, she’s a smart one.
