One lesson you should learn about Mase – NEVER ask him about preaching while at a music-based event! Konan of 92Q Jams in Baltimore learned that the hard way when he opened up his interview at the BET Awards Radio Broadcast Center with “so the people want to know, are you preaching or are you rapping?” It all went south from there.

Mase went on a rant for several minutes. Unfortunately the audio is not the greatest quality but you can make out a few strong statements:

“Actually the interview right now is about music.”

“It’s time for us as Black people to realize that we can do more than one thing.”

“I think to put someone in a box is somewhat narrow-minded.”

“I only get questions like that from the east coast like Baltimore and New York.”

“I can’t be focused on church questions with HOOD people.”

“If they want to talk about church, they have to come to church and if they want to talk about music, we’re on the air for music and nothing else.”

Ouch! Needless to say this rant went on for nearly four minutes and Mase didn’t appear to be very engaged for the remainder of the interview. What did we learn from this? Maybe that question should have been saved for the very end of the interview. Rappers are sensitive about their ish! Thoughts?

Mase’ album Now We’re Even is scheduled to drop Oct. 7.
