Little League Champs Challenge President Obama To Pickup Game At White House

Are you game, Mr. President?

When the nation’s championship Little League team visited the White House on Thursday, one of the players challenged Barack Obama to a game of hoops — mano a mano.

“I told the president I wanted to face him in basketball,” said Marquis Jackson, second baseman and pitcher for Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The president reportedly told the 13-year-old he would have to take a rain check, but promised to schedule a match the next time he’s home in Chicago.

“The president told him that he needs to grow a little bit more before they play,” added team manager Darold Butler.

Dressed in their golden jerseys, their necks adorned with red ties (and one very on-point bow tie), the team and its adult staff also also came bearing gifts for the commander in chief and the first lady.

The team presented team jerseys and custom baseball gloves as gifts: the first lady’s stitched with the words “Let’s Move,” in honor of her campaign to end childhood obesity; and the president’s emblazoned with “POTUS.”

Jackie Robinson West, from Chicago’s South Side, became the first all-black team to win the U.S. title of the Little League World Series, capturing the nation’s heart in the process. However, the team ultimately fell to a formidable South Korean squad for the world title.
