Bill Cosby

In the midst of mounting sexual allegations from nearly 30 different women, Bill Cosby’s recent standup comedy show was interrupted by protestors. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cosby was about five minutes into his set when 30 women seated in the crowd rose up and revealed shirts featuring the words ‘We Believe The Women.’

A report by Etan Vlessing for THR.com stated Cosby both praised the protestors outside picketing in 10-degree temperatures and implored fellow members of the audience to ‘let them have their say.’ Cosby also faced individual hecklers who shouted expletives, called him a rapist, and blew whistles. After security officers removed the protestors, Cosby finished his set and exited the stage to a standing ovation.

After a handful of accusations in the early 2000’s—including one settled out of court in 2004—Cosby’s popularity took a nosedive beginning in the fall of 2014 when dozens of women accused him of various forms of sexual assault.

On November 19, NBC canceled an upcoming project with Cosby. The move came one day after Netflix indefinitely postponed a planned standup comedy special entitled Bill Cosby 77. Both Temple University and Spelman University distanced themselves from Cosby.

The 77-year-old comedian and actor has repeatedly denied the allegations, and he has yet to be formally charged with any crime.
