Hip Hop mogul JAY Z is notoriously quiet on Twitter, so when he took it to the tweets this afternoon to defend Tidal, a music-streaming service that he launched last month with a bevy of music’s A-Listers, including Madonna, Jack White, Beyonce, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Coldplay and Kanye West, his “stream of consciousness” quickly went viral.

Hov bought Tidal from Swedish-listed parent Aspiro for $56 million, Yahoo Finance reports. His stated aim is to strengthen the relationship between artist and consumer by removing the middleman, i.e., corporations taking too much of the music revenue pie.

We don’t know if JAY doth protest too much or if he really thinks that Tidal stands a chance. But for the anti-social star to go on an extended Twitter plea asking fans to give the company a chance, the picture can’t be all that rosy. Someone clearly decided that the public needed to hear from the man in charge and only time will tell if the move pays off.

And for the rapper who once spit: “I sell ice in the winter, I sell fire in hell; I am a hustler baby, I’ll sell water to a well,” making Tidal successful is clearly a challenge he can’t refuse.
