Max B is currently serving a 75-year sentence after being convicted of manslaughter, aggravated assault, robbery, kidnapping, possession of a weapon and conspiracy in 2009. He’s appealing the sentence, and he took some time to briefly talk about the recent death of his friend and fellow rapper Lionel “Chinx” Pickens with REVOLT.

“We lost another young, aspiring brother trying to do the right thing…trying to stay off these streets and feed his family,” Max B said of Chinx’s murder. “For such a senseless tragedy to occur…every time that s**t happens, it just pushes us back another 20 years.”

Max also reflected on the early days of himself, Stack Bundles, and French Montana contributing to the ByrdGang projects helmed by Jim Jones. The currently incarcerated rapper chalked up the lack of collaborations between himself and Chinx to a timing issue. Max B said he was attending his 2009 trial during Chinx’s ascent and wasn’t in the mood or mind frame to create music or collaborate.

“We’re gonna miss you, and we’re gonna hold it down for you, dog,” Max B told REVOLT in regards to Chinx. “You was on your way to becoming something great, and we know you in a better place right now.”
