Rachel Dolezal has announced that she will be offering further comment to the NAACP on her recent scandal.

It’s a bit surprising that it’s taken this long, but she is set to address the fellow members of her organization about the controversy that’s surrounding her when the Spokane chapter of the NAACP holds its meeting Monday night.

President Dolezal will be explaining herself following the revelation that she’s been masquerading as a Black woman for years. The Black community has had plenty to say about her actions, speculating on her reasons for keeping up this charade for so long. According to KHQ-TV, she issued an announcement about her plans to clear a few things up now that she’s spoken to the business branch of her NAACP chapter.

“As you probably know by now, there are questions and assumptions swirling in national and global news about my family, my race, my credibility, and the NAACP,” Dolezal’s message said. “I have discussed the situation, including personal matters, with the Executive Committee.”

Dolezal herself has contended that she still sees herself as a Black woman despite what her parents say in a recent interview. It seems that she’s had a lot more to say on the situation, but has chosen to wait until now to say anything more.

She stated, “I support their decision to wait until Monday to make a statement. The Executive team asked that I also release my response statement at the same time, which will be during the 7-9 p.m. monthly membership meeting.”

It’s not clear what Dolezal may have to say for herself when confronting her peers, but the NAACP has been very supportive of her and her work. In a statement issued on Monday, the civil rights organization said that it does not care as much about her race as some might think.

“One’s racial identity is not a qualifying criteria or disqualifying standard for NAACP leadership,” the group said. “In every corner of this country, the NAACP remains committed to securing political, educational and economic justice for all people.”
