J. Cole recently weighed in on the debate surrounding policing and the etiquette of the police force across the United States.

During an interview with The Combat Jack Show, the Fayetteville, North Carolina emcee spoke on how he believes that the police force as a “machine” is flawed, thus causing those officers who joined with great intentions to succumb to the perhaps unwritten but often-criticized rules of the institution.

“Somebody was asking me, ‘Oh, don’t you think there is good cops?’ [Of course], but this is the thing: I think there are good and great people who are cops, but I think the term ‘good cop’ is an oxymoron because the job ain’t good,” J. Cole says. “The machine, they are part of a machine that’s not good. They are agents of a machine that are not good. Are there good people in those roles? Absolutely. Great people, who really thought they were joining to make a difference and make a change, but now find themselves currently fucking up people’s days.”
