Vanessa Williams made history 32 years ago, when she became the first African-American woman to win the Miss America pageant. Almost a year after she took home the crown, Penthouse magazine published nude photos of Williams, prompting Miss America officials to call for her resignation. Miss America CEO Sam Haskell finally took the initiative to apologize to Williams for the way she was treated at last night’s pageant, where she served as a judge. “Though none of us currently in the organization were involved then, on behalf of today’s organization, I want to apologize to you and to your mother, Miss Helen Williams,” he said. “I want to apologize for anything that was said or done that made you feel any less than the Miss America you are and the Miss America you always will be.” Read more.


President Obama Announces More Key Administration Posts

President Obama recently made several appointments within his administration. Those who were appointed included Barbara Lee, U.S. Representative from the State of California, Chris Smith, U.S. Representative from the State of New Jersey, and lawyer Cassandra Q. Butts. “I am confident that these individuals will serve the American people well, and I look forward to working with them in the months to come,” said President Obama in a statement. California May Start Automatically Registering People to Vote

The state of California is set on changing the voting game. Both houses of California’s legislature passed a law that would automatically register adults living in the state to vote. If the bill comes to fruition, next year, adults in California who get a state ID, driver’s license, or a license renewal will be automatically registered. Oregon became the first state to pass this law. According to research, one fifth of California’s population is eligible to vote, but not registered. Read more.
