What are our representatives, activists, and entrepreneurs saying about what has become the largest Black liberation movement in recent decades?

NewsOne caught up with attendees at the Congressional Black Caucus’ Annual Legislative Conference 2015 — largely focused on Black Lives Matter — to see what they had to say about policy and community and how it relates to the success of the movement.

“Black Lives Matter movement is not just a hashtag,” Alicia Garza, co-founder of the BLM network, said during a CBCF town hall. “Say it with me…’Black Lives Matter is not just a hashtag.”

“Black Lives Matter says something very important today,” Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) told NewsOne. “These groups are diverse and they are all over the nation; find a way to associate yourself with Black Lives Matter.”

Check out the video above to see what Glenn Martin (president of JustLeadershipUSA), Julia Simon (vice president of Mary Kay, Inc.), Natalie Madeira Cofield (founder of Walkers Legacy), and Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee have to say about how tackling the school-to-prison pipeline, influencing policy, and fostering economic empowerment will aid in dismantling state violence and systemic racism.
