'Empire' Season 2 Viewing Party

There’s word that Timbaland had a diva moment and refused to take the stage at a charity event for the people of Flint, Michigan.

According to the New York Daily News, Timbaland left a promoter hanging during a recent charity performance in Detroit. The “Empire” music producer was slated to do a 30-minute set at Club Bleu on Thursday night to help raise money to send clean water to Flint.

Reportedly, though, Timbaland refused to hold up his end of the contract because he didn’t get two bottles of Ace of Spades champagne as had been requested in his rider. But the hit maker and his crew were in no danger of going thirsty.

Not only did they get some bottles of Dom Perignon in place of the Ace of Spades, Timbaland and his people supposedly also guzzled a ton of top-shelf alcohol–including two bottles of Patron and D’usse each. “They had about 15 bottles of liquor and champagne, which is extremely excessive especially for a charity event, club owner Mitchell Jaworski told the Daily News. “They seemed more concerned about getting every drop of liquor.”

Jaworski‘s wife told reports that “it was a disaster.” Timbaland and his entourage were also accused of being stingy and not tipping their servers.

About 300 people came out for the event. When it came time for Timbaland to perform, he allegedly stalled and his management requested a copy of the contract they signed with Club Bleu about two weeks ago. The producer finally went on around 1 a.m., but he didn’t actually perform. He simply stood on the stage and nodded along as another DJ performed for the crowd.

Timbaland has yet to release an official statement on the matter, but he did tell one fan that he fulfilled the requirements of his initial contract and even chipped in for the cause. He claims that he wasn’t asked to perform at Club Bleu until after the deal had been signed.

“I’ve gave money and came, and they asked me at the last minute,” Timbaland wrote, imploring people to consider the source when hearing stories.

To his point, one of the first mentions of Timbaland performing was only reported on January 22 by the Detroit Metro Times. On the bright side, promoters were able to raise about $3,000 for the people of Flint with Thursday’s event.
