Beyonce's Lemonade artwork

Beyonce can’t lose. After taking the world by storm with her HBO special, Lemonade, then later releasing an album under the same name, she set the entire internet on fire. Articles discussing the albums messages, it’s importance to black women, whether Jay-Z was cheating, and only God knows what else in between, crowded blogs and publications for almost the entire week after its airing. As they say in show business, “all publicity is good publicity.” And it seems like Beyonce rode all of that publicity right into the number one album in the country.

“Beyoncé’s sixth solo studio record is also her sixth solo studio record to debut atop theBillboard 200. The mag’s site reported Sunday that Lemonade notched 653,000 equivalent album units (485,000 of those as pure album sales) in its first week, and, consumption-wise, has so far enjoyed the best first week of any 2016 release.”

Even more impressive, Beyonce took the top spot away from Prince, whose music has covered several spots on the list. Prince’s Best Of… album is at #2, with several other albums (Purple Rain, The Hits/The B-Sides, Ultimate, and 1999) round out the top ten.

The #Beyhive should be pleased.
