The Retweet Harriet Tubman

Harriet Tubman has been very busy over the last couple of weeks. Back in April, it was announced that the once leader of the ‘Underground Railroad’ would usurp former president Andrew Jackson to have her face planted on the twenty dollar bill. Now, it seems as if her the long dead leader of slaves will be making her way to the silver screen. The movie Harriet, based on her life, is currently in the works.

“Deadline reports that a film about the life of Harriet Tubman, the former slave who became a crucial part of the Underground Railroad, is in the works. Called Harriet, the project’s set to be directed by Seith Mann (Homeland), with a script from Gregory Allen Howard (Remember the Titans). Marco and New Balloon are financing the film.”

There are also reports that Viola Davis is developing an HBO project based on Harriet’s life as well.

“Meanwhile, Viola Davis is currently developing a Tubman project at HBO, which means we may be heading for a case of Capote vs. Infamous once again.”

There is no release date planned for the movie or the HBO project at this time. With that said, it’ll be interesting to see who will be tapped to play the historical figure in a role. One would figure a role like this would be given to someone who’s capable of showing Ms. Tubman in her best light. Let’s hope it doesn’t turn out to be another Nina
