Songstress Judith Hill, the late singer Prince’s protégée, is opening up about his death. During a recent interview with The New York Times, Hill revealed she was with Prince when his plane made an emergency landing on April 15 due to an alleged opioid overdose. She said the two were having dinner and talking about music when his “eyes (became) fixed.” “Thankfully, I happened to be looking into his face,” said Hill. “We knew it was only a matter of time; we had to get down. We didn’t have anything on the plane to help him.” Kirk Johnson, Prince’s longtime friend and assistant, was also on the private plane with the two at the time. After failed revival attempts, they alerted the pilot and an emergency stop was made in Illinois, where Prince was revived by paramedics. Hill also shared that she was amongst many loved ones who supported Prince as he was trying to overcome his opioid addiction. “He (sought treatment) because he was concerned, and he wanted to do the right thing for his own body,” she said. “And that’s the part that breaks my heart, because he was trying. He was trying.” Prior to being taken under Prince’s wing, Hill was mentored by legendary singer Michael Jackson. She was a contestant on Season four of The Voice. Read more.

Serena Documentary To Air On Epix

A new documentary will delve into the highs and lows of tennis star Serena Williams’ career. Titled Serena, the film, which is slated to air on Epix on Wednesday, follows her 2015 season. The bar was set high for Williams in 2015 as she tried to win the calendar Grand Slam – something that hasn’t been done in tennis since 1988. “I want people to see that journey and be on that journey with me,” said Williams during the film’s premiere. “I want people to see the ups and the downs, the fun off of the court, to realize all the stuff I’m doing to be able to win Grand Slams and tournaments. It’s a really intense journey and it’s not easy.” The documentary was directed by Ryan White. “It was real, it was grueling,” said White in reference to her French Open quest. “Serena delivers drama, yes, but she’s often understated about the condition that she’s in. She doesn’t want excuses.” Serena will air on June 22 at 8 p.m. ET. Read more.

Gladys Knight’s Chicken And Waffles Restaurants Raided In Atlanta

According to reports, Gladys Knight’s Chicken and Waffles restaurants in Georgia were raided by the IRS on Tuesday. The popular eateries, which are operated by Knight’s son, are at the center of a probe related to $1 million in illegally diverted funds. According to Knight’s rep, the only tie she has to the restaurants is the use of her name. “Gladys Knight lent her name to her son’s restaurants in the Atlanta area, similar to a celebrity endorsement,” said Laura Herlovich, a spokeswoman for Knight. “Ms. Knight was not involved in any way with the operation of the restaurants and she is sure that her son and his business partners will rectify the situation. As always, her main concern is for her family’s well-being and she is making sure the family has the guidance they need to assess the situation and move forward.” All of the restaurants have been closed until further notice.
