A 21-year-old Baltimore County man has died after allegedly fighting with police in Middle River early Sunday morning, county police said Wednesday.

Police said the man “sustained injuries” in the struggle but were not more specific about what his injuries were or how he was injured. He was hospitalized for days before police announced Wednesday afternoon he had died.

Police said they went to the first block of Akin Circle around 3:09 a.m. on Sunday after receiving 911 calls in which a man and a woman could be heard screaming at each other. Police said officers found the man and woman screaming at each other and the woman reported to police that her boyfriend had been acting “crazy” and was on drugs and alcohol.

According to police, the man, identified as Tawon Boyd, 21, who lived in the same block, appeared “confused and paranoid, sweating heavily.” The man tried to run to multiple police cars and get inside and was banging on neighbors’ doors, police said.

When officers tried to take Boyd in for an emergency evaluation, he allegedly refused to obey orders and began fighting with officers, injuring three of them. Boyd was also injured and was taken to a hospital, where he remained on Tuesday, police said.

On Wednesday, police announced that he had died.
