The following is Penn State coach Joe Paterno’s statement that he’ll retire at the end of the season.

I am absolutely devastated by the developments in this case. I grieve for the children and their families, and I pray for their comfort and relief.

I have come to work every day for the last 61 years with one clear goal in mind: To serve the best interests of this university and the young men who have been entrusted to my care. I have the same goal today.

That’s why I have decided to announce my retirement effective at the end of this season. At this moment the Board of Trustees should not spend a single minute discussing my status. They have far more important matters to address. I want to make this as easy for them as I possibly can. This is a tragedy. It is one of the great sorrows of my life. With the benefit of hindsight, I wish I had done more.

My goals now are to keep my commitments to my players and staff and finish the season with dignity and determination. And then I will spend the rest of my life doing everything I can to help this University.

Terrelle Pryor continues to get himself in more heat with the NCAA and OSU!

“NBC4i is now reporting that Terrelle Pryor drove the car, bought by his mother Thomasina Pryor just 6 days ago (yes – the same struggling mother Pryor sold memorabilia for cash to help) with a suspended license. Pryor had his license suspended less than 2 weeks ago for failing to provide proof of insurance and remains in effect until mid-August.”

Read more..]]> Ohio State announced this Memorial Day Morning that head football coach Jim Tressel has turned in his letter of resignation.  The allegations of NCAA violations have been piling up against Tressel and the Ohio State football program since last December when it was announced 6 players received improper benefits.  Later it was discovered that Tressel knew about the violations, but didn’t notify his superiors at Ohio State and lied to the NCAA about knowing.  It was not the crime, but it was the cover-up that cost Tressel his job.

The NCAA was likely to punish Ohio State much harsher if Jim Tressel continued to be the head coach, so it was in the best interest of the program for him to resign.  Assistant coach Luke Fickell will take over the head coaching duties, as he has been appointed the interim head coach.

The recent admissions of several violations by former player Ray Small was probably the final straw in determining Tressel’s future with the buckeyes.  Many people felt like Small “snitched” on the entire program, and there was no way Tressel could remain head coach after those first hand admissions of violations.  It turned out to be true less than a week later Tressel term as “Senator” has ended.

The Ohio State football program is one of the strongest in the nation.  Ohio State has been a perennial big ten power and national championship contender.  Let’s hope the scarlet & gray can rally together despite the turmoil within the program and win another big ten championship. OH-IO!

Cleveland — When asked about the novelty of being a white running back in the NFL on the Dan Patrick Show, Cleveland Browns running back Peyton Hillis claimed that he was often taunted during games for being white.

“Every team did it,” Hillis said. “They’ll say, ‘You white boy, you ain’t gonna run on us today. This is ridiculous. Why are you giving offensive linemen the ball?’

He went on to give examples of the nicknames he heard throughout the season. Patrick said his favorite was “The Avalanche.”

“I heard that one,” Hillis replied. “I heard ‘White Rhino.’ I heard … Chuck Norris.’”

Hillis also said that he knows most people “don’t have a lot of faith” in him, but he uses it as motivation.

Testifying for a second day in a custody battle with his estranged wife Siohvaughn Wade, the NBA All-Star said his oldest son, who is eight, had been “alienated” from him.

Dwyane Wade said that, if he got sole custody of the two children — the younger son is three years old — he would allow Siohvaughn to have a role in the boys’ lives, but only if she got help with her anger.

During his first day of testimony on Friday, Wade said he was the victim of domestic violence at the hands of his ex-wife and denied allegations he used drugs, owned guns, or had ever had a sexually transmitted disease. SOURCE
