If you pay attention these days there is an emergence of socially conscious young African Americans who are challenging the rest of our people to wake up and see what’s going on around them. Certain events like these Tea Party movements of today or civil rights leaders passing away give us an opportunity to reflect on our history and our present.
One thing that is apparent today is the lack of leaders and the absence of a movement for our people. Are we not built like our predecessors? Here is more on that subject.

A few days ago as I was driving home from NYC, I was trying to figure out what topic I’d tackle today. I reached out to the homie CheekZ for suggestions and he brought something to mind that’s particularly relevant given the recent passing of Dorothy Height, the Godmother of the Civil Rights Movement. The “struggle” today is obviously different than the 50s and 60s. Anybody who reads this blog has reaped the benefits of what those who passively and actively protested did to get us to this point. These are the people that got spit on, flogged, sprayed with fire houses, shot with rubber and real bullets, and jailed for standing up for their beliefs. I don’t need to say much more because we’ve all seen the pictures. It’s also important to mention that I’m not just talking about Black people. There are plenty of people of other races and ethnicities that suffered the same treatment for standing with “us.”
