It’s the first day of school in some parts of the country and R&B singer Raheem DeVaughn spoke with  KYSDC’s Ill Will about fatherhood and the first day of school experience with his kids.

Ladies, after a breakup we can do some pretty irrational things. Of course, men aren’t immune to these pitfalls, but due to our emotional nature, we can be more susceptible to the crazy. However, to avoid future humiliation, here are a few tips to help you keep your sanity.

1. Baby, I’m Begging
The whole “he broke up with me out of the blue” speech is pure BS. Whether you noticed or not, chances are your ex saw the demise of your relationship well before you did. Therefore, groveling before him won’t change his mind. Despite what you think, desperation is never hot. Wipe the tears and snot off your face and walk away with some dignity!

2. LOL
Just because you can call, text, BBM, IM and e-mail anyone at anytime these days doesn’t mean you’ve got the green light to do all of the above to your ex. Texting him to say “I was just thinking of you” is no longer romantic or sweet, it’s annoying –and stalker-esque. Do yourself a favor and avoid using your phone or computer when thoughts of your ex start bubbling over — sober or drunk.

3. Computer Love
I don’t know how many times I’ve heard the following: “So I was reading his status on Facebook today and he said ____ He’s so talking about me.” There’s a really good chance you’re off the mark or simply paranoid. Reading too much into someone’s status will just make you crazy, and monitoring someone’s every move can not only be exhausting, but torturous. If he’s having a good day, you’ll feel slighted; if you feel he’s referencing you, you’ll gain false hope. Either way you spin it, it’s not a good look.

4. Breakup Sex
We all know there’s a window time after a breakup where sex with your ex is acceptable (cue Ne-yo). It’s only natural for you to still want to be physical with someone you’ve established a bond with; however, at some point, the loving becomes a really, really bad idea. If it’s six months after your breakup and you’re still letting him hit that with no signs of a reunion, then you should probably cease and desist. I hate to tell to you, but your “long history” does not make you immune to jump-off status.

5. Social Stalking
“Oh my God, I didn’t know you were going to be here.” Girl stop! You’ve been with your ex for two years and can practically recite his daily routine in your sleep, but now you’re surprised to find him at the bar he frequents for happy hour? Awkward encounters with your ex aren’t cool, they’re just plain… awkward. Plus, I highly doubt your ex will be nearly as excited to see you. To avoid looking crazy, you should refrain from showing up where you aren’t wanted.

6. Friendly Fire
YOU CANNOT BE FRIENDS WITH YOUR EX IF YOU’RE STILL IN LOVE WITH HIM! Too many poor souls have tried to be a guy’s girl friend right after being his girlfriend, but forcing yourself to see someone platonically when they still have your heart is a lost cause. You’re only setting yourself up for heartache when the reality hits that he doesn’t see you the same way anymore. It’s best to get over the person completely before considering his friendship.

7. Ex to the Next
For the females who choose to ignore my previous rule (because I know there will be plenty) and are determined to be friends with your ex, avoid asking him about his new dating/sex life. You do not want to know how many chicks he’s slept with since you two broke up last month, let alone find out if he’s seeing someone new. Trust me, it won’t stop at one question, and you definitely won’t like the answers. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

Can We Talk?
He hasn’t answered your calls, texts or e-mails, so you have this brilliant idea to surprise him at his place to talk. What the f–k are you thinking?!?! If he doesn’t want to talk to you what makes you think he wants to see you? He’s avoiding you for a reason, so you should avoid making a fool of yourself. It will most likely lead to a verbal altercation and him reiterating the fact that he doesn’t want to be with you. Do you really need to hear that again?

It’s not looking good for T.I. and Tiny.

According to TMZ, police have confirmed that the pills found in their car were indeed ecstasy pills.

Ecstasy, also known as MDMA, is a methamphetamine that is known to produce a sense of euphoria in users.

Critics praised last week’s 62nd Annual Emmy Awards for finally bringing some life to the generally stiff ceremony.

One publication even said that the ceremony finally “entered the 21st century.”

In a letter posted by the Huffington Post, actress Regina King feels it was like every other ceremony.

Since the Emmy ceremony, I have been going back and forth about whether or not I should compose this letter. I try hard in my daily life not to engage in uncomfortable situations regarding race. But sometimes it’s very difficult to find other reasons that better explain why certain events play out the way they do. It is impossible for me to ignore the published statistics regarding the number of people of color mentioned, celebrated or honored in the history of the televised Emmys. Up to and including this year, there have been only 53 non-white actors nominated for Emmys out of nearly 1,000 possible nominations in the top four acting categories for drama and comedy.

We thank Regina for not limiting her outrage to just the lack of representation of black actors, but to all of the Asian, Latino, etc. actors out there working just as hard as their white counterparts!

Ne-Yo may be one of T.I.’s largest supporters, but the R&B singer/songwriter thinks that the rapper needs to get his act together.

In an interview with the Associated Press, Ne-Yo says that T.I.’s problems stem from the people around him.

I just feel that he makes a lot of poor decisions when it comes to the people that he surrounds himself with.

…Nine times out of 10 when he gets in trouble, it’s not him, it’s the people that he’s with.

T.I. and his wife, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, were arrested yesterday on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine in West Hollywood.

Ne-Yo had a few words for T.I. as well in the interview:

You’ve been given a bunch of different chances. Now is the time to really go, “you know I get it, all right, I get it.”

The road to redemption has been rather rocky for Chris Brown.

Over a year and a half after Brown assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna en route to the 2009 Grammy awards ceremony, things are starting to look up for the pop star.

His latest single, “Deuces,” currently sits atop Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart.  It’s his first top ten single in the United States since 2008’s “Forever,” and first number one single since 2007’s “Kiss Kiss.” Brown served as executive producer of and has a significant acting role in the film Takers, which was the number one movie in the United States during its opening weekend, pulling in just over $20 million.

After the Rihanna incident on the night of February 8, 2009, Brown’s career struggled.  An apology video, posted to YouTube, as well as a heavily publicized appearance on CNN’s Larry King Live were widely ridiculed and lampooned. Though he accepted full responsibilities for his actions, Brown was branded the new Ike Turner. His album, Graffiti, released in December 2009, was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews, scant radio airplay and has sold just over 310,000 copies since its release. Brown, who was sentenced to 5 years probation for the assault, claimed that stores refused to stock his album and that radio stations had blacklisted him.

Brown issued an urgent plea to his fans to call their local radio stations and request his songs:

After posting multiple frustrated rants on his Twitter account, and cursing out a radio jock during an interview, it seemed like Chris Brown’s career was over. Brown turned 21 in May 2010, and struggled to find venues that would host his birthday party. In June 2010, he was denied a visa to enter the UK for being guilty of a “serious criminal offense” which resulted in the cancellation of several scheduled shows in Europe.

However, one month earlier, a light at the end of the tunnel appeared during the 2010 BET Awards.

Brown performed a tribute to Michael Jackson, during which he began crying and fell to his knees during a rendition of Jackson’s classic “Man In The Mirror.” Though many doubted the sincerity of his emotional display and accused him of faking it, a very vocal contingency believed that the performance was completely genuine.  The performance prompted the initial rumblings of Brown’s career pulling a phoenix move and rising from the ashes.

With the major successes he’s had in the last seven days, it looks like Chris Brown has escaped the fate of Ike Turner, who was never able to salvage his career or his image after his divorce from Tina Turner.

Though America may have forgiven Chris Brown for what he did to Rihanna, but he shouldn’t expect America to forget.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever had to perform surgery on a cassette tape that you’ve rescued from a disrespectful boombox. Brooklyn rapper Skyzoo and producer !llmind remember the analog era fondly and have teamed up to bring a 2010 version on their collaborative album aptly titled “Live From The Tape Deck.”

Wednesday night in New York the duo held a private listening session for the album at Guitar Center and TheUrbanDaily.com was in the building to the sneak peek.

“We wanted to make a 2010 cassette tape. That’s why it’s only 12 songs,” Skyzoo told the crowd. “And if you had a tape you knew one side represented one thing and the other represented something else. I knew that with Ready To Die that side A was real raw and side B was real emotional. You’ll see how the gears shift on tracks 7 through 12.”

Highlights on the album include, “The Burn Notice” f/ Sean Price and Rock of Heltah Skeltah, Barrell Brothers F/ Torae and the mind-bending “Langston’s Pen.”

Live From The Tape Deck will be in stores on October 5th on Duck Down Records.
