So is this what we’ve come to as black women?? ‘It’s free swipe yo EBT’, apparently that’s all you have to do for the rest of your life as a black women, is reproduce as many babies as you can and let the government support them financially. And yes the satire didn’t miss me, I get that this video is making fun of poor black women who chose to rely solely on government assistant even to the extent of breeding more children to make ‘big bucks’. The problem is that no one is laughing but white Americans who think this stuff is true! There just sitting back feeling completely validated in their misconceived notions about the black women and the black family. Why do we as black people always have to make fun of ourselves about serious issues that plague our lives everyday. There are real black mothers out there that struggle to make ends meet for their children and keep their family unit together. Instead of focusing on their hardships, you have people who slap them with the ‘welfare’ tag and subsequently mock their growing pains with videos like these only validating people who think low of the average single black mother.

Government assistant is not a life a single mother chooses, it’s the one she’s forced into as a means to care and provide for her children. Every black mother would love be able to raise her children in a stable household with two loving parents who can provide for their family void of any government assistants. No mothers’ proudest moment is taking a trip to the welfare office or being completely dependent on the system to feed her children. Life isn’t ‘fun’ for a mother when she knows that she can’t give her children everything they want, or at the very least, need.

Sometimes I wish we as black people would react with the same anger and outrage when people of our own race cast us in a bad light as would certainly be the case if a white person were to do so. This video is just one more fail in a long line of satire fails. Why are we targeting single mothers when the cycle of single motherhood is a direct result of a system intended to break up the black family unit leaving black women to carry the financial burden of raising their children. The purpose of satire is to use wit and humor to make constructive social criticism, in this case the satire looses its’ ‘constructiveness’ because it isn’t aiming its’ message at the right target!

WOW!!! When I read the headline, I thought it was another “almost satire” made by those right wing extremists that released the video http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2011/06/15/245985/give-us-your-cash-b***h-ad/ representing black men as “money stealing thugs”. I’m very dissapointed that this video came out of our own community, it’s hard enough being women of color that constantly get labeled by bigots as “welfare queens” for having a child out of wedlock and applying for medicaid etc, but videos like this only add feul to the fire as to why so many people refuse to respect us as a people still in this day and age. I know that some people do cheat the system, but most are hard working mothers that are just trying to keep their kids happy and fed.

I just want to see more women and people get the respect they deserve instead of being dogged by stereotypes for their financial and cultural differences.

I don’t see any information on where this video was made, or who was behind the scenes/who filmed these women and children?? I’m sure we’d all agree that they did not receive public assistance for doing this video. I’m sure they were payed. I’m thinking it’s like placing the blame on a young girl for making a pornographic movie, while the 7 nasty men behind the scenes are never made responsible. In fact, they never seem to loose the respect of the average person. These woman are no different than other woman willing to do anything to be famous. As our society dictates, too many woman and young girls feel that they can only be successful as video vixens, strippers and prostitutes. Our young women need help; they need everyone to begin looking at those who exploit them.

WHO PRODUCED THE VIDEO? I’ll call this story another example of lazy journalism if the writer doesn’t identify the producer and director of the video.

You can read up on Chapter, the young lady who is the artist behind this video, here: http://youtu.be/-1TTYZAEBzU

You know what ~ it is sad that people will view this as an African American issue vs. NATIONwide issue.

Although African Americans are NOT the ONLY persons that ABUSE the system – there are MANY that make this a lifestyle and think it’s cute.

GET UP, GET OUT, AND GET SOMETHING… The only advice I can give.

Don’t be up here screaming that you’re an “independent woman” taking care of your 3 kids single handedly… WHEN you’re on Section 8 paying $13/mth for rent, Getting Food Stamps & Cash Assistance, Getting a kickback for going to college (I know a few that make 3K every semester/term- but have no REAL bills, so it’s a come up), and for those that ARE able to do something to get out of their situation(s) ~ they know it’s easier to keep “working the system”… and that’s EXACTLY what’s happening.

    I’ll leave my comment at/with this…

If the Negro in the ghetto must eternally be fed by the hand that pushes him into the ghetto, he will never become strong enough to get out of the ghetto ~ Carter G. Woodson

If you do not know who Carter Woodson is… You obviously have no idea the message in MisEducation of Lauryn Hill that she was trying to pass on… etc

If that’s you, learn your REAL history???? Start here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vzdi7gmszKQ&feature=share

This is just the most disrespectful thing I have EVER heard! I am a proud mother of 2 and I DO get EBT BUT I work have a usband who WORKS and we still need some form of help. It ‘s just sad that women think thas all that needs to be done. Look at what this song is not only promoting but teaching the younger girls. Its already bad enough to see all the teenage pregancies!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XYFRHAX3I7MGKLLOOEC2OAO6UU Stephanie

I know right, like wheres is the songs saying I wake up int he am get my kids some breakfast with the food I got with my EBT, and then got them dressed and took them to school, helped them with home work arfter working or school and then home again to care for a family, this is the worst song I evber heard, I feel this should be removed from the air asap! Its a disgrace and unless the young lady in the song really live liek that, then she also should be embaressed

CIA Records (Creative Indie Artists Publishing) , Chris Jackson in Beverly Hills, CA 310-492-5400. It’s a business so the number is listed. Watch the young lady’s 14 minute video on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzspsovNvII. The young lady’s “stage” name is Chapter – this is one chapter that we need to close, like yesterday! Black people, let’s stop allowing folks to make a fool out of us as they laught not with us but at us all the way to the bank and it’s okay if we collect a few crumbs while they get paid the big bucks!

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VUPJPTSKM4WXCHZSNYHTAQAHZY Chris

hahaha that was funny and soo true, if people are offended maybe they should stop and think. I can’t tell you how many people I have seen on welfare and the whole 9 yards who keep popping out kids. If you can’t afford them don’t have them. Its not my job to pay for your kids though.

  • http://twitter.com/factevangelist Fact Evangelist

Producer Chris Jackson is a top military contractor – interesting huh? http://blog.factevangelist.com/2011/08/swipe-yo-ebt-fake/ No record of “Chapter” exists before it appears the idea for this video was conceived in November 2010.

Great commentary. I ran down some more information about the (white) businessman and co-writer of the lyrics for the anti-EBT video.

the single largest cause of poverty (and crime) in America is exactly what she fictitiously describes as her current situation. Single parenthood. I fail to understand why in a free country with freedom of choice one can have sex out of marriage (as it is their right) but yet send the bill to the taxpayer in the form of welfare, EBT, TANF, medicaid, section 8, etc.? If it is a free country, shouldn’t people accept the full responsibility for their free choices? Or is it easier to tax the ones who made correct choices in life to give to those who don’t? Would that not be enabling people to make further poor choices by cushioning the consequences for poor choices?

  • http://www.facebook.com/ArmyKerrfamily Nathan J Kerr

Or do you think it should be removed because it wakes the actual taxpayers up to the Democrat parties purposely addicting single parents to welfare for votes. How in a free country do you choose to have sex but stick the upper 48% who actually pay taxes without getting it all back at the end of the year with the bill? How is it fair to stick it to those who did it right in life? Sorry Stephanie- We all support your freedom of choice to have sex, but take responsibility for your offspring and quit asking for handouts (TANF, SNAP, section 8, medicaid etc.) when the country is 15.1 trillion dollars in debt.
