“The two teens accused of shooting 17-year-old University Christian School student Makia Coney in the head were formally charged Tuesday with murder and will be tried as adults. Connor Julian Pridgen, 16, and Charles Roy Southern, 17, waived their 1:30 p.m. appearance before Judge John Merrett in the Juvenile Division of the Duval County Courthouse. They were transferred to the Duval County jail, where they make their first appearance as adult defendants about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. Pridgen’s parents and a public defender joined Southern’s attorney before the judge as the case was transferred to circuit court. The parents left without speaking to anyone. Defense attorney Rhonda Peoples-Waters said the thoughts and prayers of her client and his family are with Coney’s family, although she wouldn’t comment on any reason for the shooting.” – Jackson News.
