The provocative and prolific philosopher Dr. Cornel West was the featured keynote speaker for the 39th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Celebration. This is the 11th year that Radio One Columbus has partnered for this great event and this year proved to be the most successful year. The event catered to a standing only crowd that poured in to the Archie Griffin Ballroom at The Ohio State University. Within 30 minutes of the event there was an intermission to open up the other side of the venue to accommodate more students, faculty, and community members who arrived for the event.
Also in attendance that night were recipients of the Martin Luther King Jr Scholarship Award. 7 of the brightest students at The Ohio State University were awarded this distinguished scholarship and were congratulated by Dr. Cornel West on their great accomplishments. Radio One Columbus GM David Presher addressed the community in his welcome and spoke about the challenges that we can overcome by following the example that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr displayed.
As MC of the event, I was honored to be apart of this great event, Dr.Cornel West is a brilliant mind and one of the great thinkers of our time.
