Approximately 10 people were transported to local hospitals after multiple Campus Area Bus Service buses were involved in a crash.

The incident occurred near the Schottenstein Center Wednesday around 11 p.m. after a Pink concert. All injuries reported were non-life threatening and two drivers received citations by University Police.

The accident occurred in Ohio State’s Buckeye Lot on West Campus and University Police are treating the crash as two separate accidents because of how the collisions occurred.

The first crash occurred when a car traveling north on Fred Taylor Drive merged into the bus lane, hitting the first bus, which performed an “emergency stop.”

“There were two buses behind that,” said University Police Captain David Rose. “The second was able to stop, but the third was not and pushed the second bus into the first.”

Deputy Chief of University Police Richard Morman said the third bus was following the second bus too closely and as a result was not able to stop before hitting the second bus. The force of the collision pushed the second bus into the back of the first bus.

“Preliminary information was that seven people from (the third bus), and three people from (the second bus) were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries,” Morman said in an email to The Lantern. “The driver of (the car) and the driver of (the third bus) were both cited.”

All CABS buses involved were shuttling attendees from the Schottenstein Center.

The police reports for the accidents are not yet available.

“One of the things that complicates a bus incident is that not everyone on the bus sticks around to talk to police; a lot of people leave,” Rose said. “Calls are coming in now from people claiming to be in the accident. We’re sorting through these and it will take some time. ”

Rose said that anyone involved in the accident should contact University Police. SOURCE
