Social media erupted with an abundance of racist remarks on the YouTube page of Cheerios a couple of days ago after a new commercial premiered featuring a interracial family.
The commercial features a curious little girl asking about Cheerios and how it can help your heart. I thought the commercial was cute and lighthearted but many people are upset because the family featured was interracial and decided to leave nasty comments on the YouTube channel. Cheerios disabled the comments on it’s YouTube page and issued the statement that, “We are a family brand and not all of the comments were family-friendly,” says Camille Gibson, vice president of marketing for Cheerios, in an e-mailed comment.
I want to know in your opinion why do you think that a commercial featuring a bi-racial couple still causes so many racist comments. Is racism still that prevalent?
