WATER COOLER TALK: Meet Kat Cooper a deputy of Chattanooga, TN that recently fought for health benefits for her wife Krista and won! Of course Cooper and her family were happy for her but the Ridgedale Church of Christ, the church that Cooper’s family has been attending for over 60 years, turned the tables on their time of joy. They called her mother in for a private meeting and gave them an ultimatum. Go before the church congregation and repent your sins or stop supporting your daughter’s lifestyle. If they didn’t agree to either of these things they were going to be banned from their church.
Hunt Cooper, Krista’s father, was quoted saying, “Her answer to them I think it’s been coverable is that she had committed no sin in her mind. Loving her daughter and supporting her family was not a sin. There was nothing to repent about. They certainly couldn’t judge her on that because that was between her and her God and it was not their place to judge her for that,”
Do you think a church should have the right to make these types of demands on their members?
