It’s been 20 years since Friday‘s release, and phrases from the cult-hit film are still relevant today, especially “Bye, Felicia.” The phrase took off everywhere within the past year, from reality TV and hashtags, to normal conversation. Ice Cube visited Conan to talk about how it’s become part of our vernacular.

“‘Bye, Felicia’ right now is the phrase to get anybody out your face that’s saying something stupid,” said Ice Cube. According to Vulture:

The line started out as “Farewell, Felicia.” Then, to be more casual, it was rewritten to “bye, Belicia,” but then they remembered that wasn’t the character’s name, and “bye, Felicia” was born!
