After a month of speculation, the news is finally confimed: Ava DuVernay is set to direct Marvel’s film adaptation of Black Panther, according to MCU Exchange.

It looks like having the Selma director behind the camera for Black Panther is part of Marvel’s master plan to release additional films with a “diversity” mission. From MCU Exchange:

Part of the desire to hire DuVernay this early in the process (more than three years before Black Panther‘s release date of July 6, 2018) is to have her on the set of Captain America: Civil War, which will feature the first appearance of both Black Panther and his home country of Wakanda.

No other decisions about the movie have been announced as of yet. Not even a screenplay has been written, and rumor has it that the film might not be released until July 2018. We’ll keep you up to date on Black Panther news until it hits the box office.
