If the past year or so has belonged to anyone in hip-hop, it’s Fetty Wap. The Paterson, New Jersey rapper has delivered back-to-back hits with “Trap Queen,” “My Way” and “679” and now, Fetty has his eyes set on the release of his yet-untitled debut studio album, which is set to be available on September 25, according to the Associated Press.

“I’m just waiting for it to get mixed and mastered,” the 24-year-old rapper said during an interview with the Associated Press. “My album been done for like two months now.”

Lyor Cohen, the music executive who once helmed Island Def Jam and Warner Music, signed Fetty Wap to his 300 Entertainment label and is partly behind the delay in his debut project.

“Our industry is lacking on a wholesale level of artist development … and we feel that (Wap is) just so brilliant and has developed this new style, new sound,” he says.

Nevertheles, Fetty and Lyor Cohen appear to have a great relationship on both a personal and professional level.

“He helped me a lot when I was going through stuff, when my grandfather died,” Fetty Wap recalls. “He was calling and calling, making sure I was all right, asking me if I need anything.

“It ain’t how like I be seeing it on TV where they arguing and stuff,” Fetty Wap continues. “We don’t even being going through that, for the most part we don’t even talk about music, he just be telling like ‘Watch myself.’ (Lyor) talk to me like a mentor.”
