Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services soon arrived to treat the injured and also investigate an odor of gas at the residence.

Police arrested the sons and charged them each with two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of first degree arson. The latter charges were for an alleged attempt to cut a gas line and send the house up in flames, investigators said.

It was no doubt a terrifying moment for the parents. But they weren’t the only ones impacted.

“I’m in shock,” neighbor Clinton Miller. “This is something we don’t expect here.”

Miller saw Zachary Ervin walk outside once police arrived.

“He [Zachary] wasn’t in good shape at all,” Miller said, “He was bleeding pretty badly. So we’re really concerned for him.”

The parents were transported to a local area hospital and both sons were taken to police headquarters to be interviewed by investigators.

Police said that the 911 call may very well have saved their lives.

According to Gwinnett County police Sgt. Rich Long, no motive has been established.

“We’re still investigating motive,” Sgt. Long said. “They have been interviewed, they have been cooperative. Yet confirmation of what their motive is, is still a mystery to us.”

The brothers are being held in isolation until their hearing on September 11.
