About 20 million people nationwide have signed up for insurance through the Affordable Care Act. The deadline for enrolling in health insurance under the law for 2017 is Tuesday.
In Ohio, the state’s expansion of the Medicaid health-insurance program for low-income people provided coverage to 713,521 additional residents, and approximately 212,000 Ohioans obtained private insurance coverage through the marketplace program, said Ohio Hospital Association spokesman John Palmer.
Among other things, the law requires businesses with more than 50 employees to provide health-care plans; allows children to stay on their parents’ insurance plans until age 26; created the marketplace, which offers government subsidies based on income levels to help individuals pay premiums;
