Castile often paid for students lunches and now a fund named after him will continue his legacy.
Stacy Koppen, the nutritional services director for St. Paul Public schools told WCCO, “When a student couldn’t pay for their lunch, a lot of times [Castile] actually paid for their lunch out of his own pocket.”
He was loved by so many of the children and the fund known as “Philando Feeds The Children” is raising money to cover the lunches of kids that can’t afford it.
The idea came from Inver Hills Community College professor Pam Fergus, which said, “His death changed who I am.”
Over $16,000 has been raised and Castile’s mother has agreed to match the final total.
Castile left behind nearly 395 students and his legacy will forever live on.
