Local students make their voices heard outside the Statehouse.

Columbus students won’t sit out on the fight for gun control and make their schools safe.

“They’re doing this because they realize something is wrong and they want to change what’s wrong in the country and they have a voice,” student organizer Kanyinsola Oy said.

WBNS was there to see the crowd of people outside the Ohio Statehouse demanding assault rifles be ban or else.

“Assault rifles should be banned, I don’t understand why people can get them so easily. I think there should be stricter gun control laws and I think nobody’s doing anything about it,” student Jane Schamess said.

The students, most from Columbus Alternative High School say they were inspired by the survivors of the Parkland High School shooting. They plan a trip to Washington D.C. to speak to Ohio Senator Rob Portman about gun control.
