J. Cole was blown away by all of the love he received from the droves of fans who showed up to see him in Nigeria over the weekend. But there was one scare that did momentarily pose as a threat to his safety.

Judging by footage from the North Carolina rapper’s show at the Eko Hotel in Lagos, he appeared to be in his glory to see a crowd, from a place he had never been before, bouncing and singing along with his lyrics.

One clip, for example, gives a shot of the fans reciting the hook from KOD‘s “Photograph,” word for word. “Nigeria. Smhhhh. 7 days later it don’t make sense can’t wait to hit the road,” Cole captioned the moment on his Instagram page.

But one snippet that made it online from someone’s cell phone camera shows that the set didn’t come without its bumps in the road. At one point, a fan rushed the stage, before he was quickly intercepted and pulled away from Cole. The incident may have briefly distracted him, but it did not stop him from completing “Deja Vu.”

Cole’s appearance was part of his gig headlining the Castle Light Unlocks Concert, which also featured music from national artists Davido, Wizkid, M.I, Tiwa Savage and Ycee.
