The 2019 Billboard Music Awards will honor the talented and infamous singer, Mariah Carey, as the Icon Award recipient. Mariah will definitely have all eyes on her during the upcoming award show.
Dick Clark Productions and NBC announced yesterday that the legendary diva will receive the 2019 Icon Award. Not only will she be taking over the stage to be handed her honor, but she will also grace the stage with a medley performance of her greatest tracks.
It’s no surprise that Mariah has been recognized for this amazing achievement. Realistically, it is long overdue. During her almost three-decade-long career, her musical success has been incomparable.
Billboard noted Carey has had a total of 18 number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 list. That made her ”the only artist to top the chart in every year of any decade… Additionally, her 79 total weeks ruling the Hot 100 are the most of any artist. Six of her albums claimed the No. 1 spot of the Billboard 200 albums chart.”
Mariah joins a list of greats with the likes of Janet Jackson, Celine Dion, Prince, Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Lopez also winning Icon Awards.
