When it comes to a stroke every minute can affect the level of brain damage when not treated fast enough. So help with this concern the Columbus Division of Fire has developed a solution with a Moblie Stroke Treatment Unit.

As mentioned on Abc6OnYourSide.com, The Columbus Division of Fire connected with OhioHealth, Mount Carmel Health System and Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center to create this mobile unit.

“When a 911 call is placed with a description fitting the symptoms of a stroke, the Columbus Division of Fire will dispatch EMS to the scene while simultaneously dispatching the “Mobile Stroke Treatment Unit.” When the unit arrives on scene, the team of trained stroke care professionals will virtually connect to the OhioHealth stroke neurologist. A CT scan will then help determine the cause of the stoke and the neurologist will decide the appropriate treatment. The patient will then be taken to one of three Certified Stroke Centers: The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Mount Carmel East Hospital, or OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital

The think “BE FAST” presented by OhioHealth to identify the early signs of a stroke:

B — Loss of BALANCE or coordination

E — Trouble seeing out of one or both EYES

— FACIAL weakness

A — ARM weakness

— SPEECH difficulty

T — TIME to call 911
