Urban Meyer addressed speculation about returning to coach at The Ohio State University and also expressed his full support for Ryan Day in a statement Thursday.
On his podcast “The Triple Option”, Meyer rejected the coaching rumors stating he has “no interest in coaching again”. Meyer showed love to Ryan Day, the current coaching staff and players. Part of his statement reads:
“While I thoroughly enjoyed my seven seasons as head coach at THE Ohio State University, I have no interest in coaching again. I will always be a Buckeye and have full confidence in Ryan Day, his staff, and every player that puts on the Scarlet and Gray.”
Urban Meyer coached the Buckeyes from 2012 to 2018, earning an 83-9 record, a national championship, and a perfect 7-0 record against Michigan. He stepped away after the 2018 season and briefly returned to coaching in 2021 with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars. He was fired after only 13 games with a 2-11 record. Since then, Meyer has consistently denied any plans to coach again and currently works as an analyst for FOX Sports “Big Noon Kickoff” pregame show.

Rumors about Meyer’s return boiled after OSU’s fourth consecutive loss to rivals, the Michigan Wolverines. Despite criticism, Ryan Day, who has a 66-10 overall record, remains supported by athletic director Ross Bjork.
The Buckeyes are still in contention for the playoffs after finishing 10-2 in the regular season. Ryan Day stated Wednesday that he expects to remain Ohio State’s head coach next year.
