UK rapper Tinchy Stryder is the latest addition to Jay-Z’s Roc Nation stable of artists.
But will the UK rapper’s brand of pop-rap strike a chord with listeners in the United States?
Tinchy’s already a full blown success in his homeland, having scored three top 5 singles in the UK, two of which hit number one. Tinchy’s second album, 2009’s Catch 22, went gold.
Jay-Z’s not a new jack when it comes to signing talent from the UK. In 2005, after a one-off freestyle the Jiggaman signed female UK rapper Lady Sovereign to a deal with Def Jam. Her one album for the label, 2006’s Public Warning, flopped. Jay-Z also signed popular UK girl group the Sugababes to Roc Nation, but they have since disappeared from the label’s roster.
Will the third time be the charm for Jay-Z?
