Laquan was a sixteen-year old emcee from California who enjoyed a mild hit with his single “Now’s The B-Turn” in 1990.

Featured on the soundtrack to the Tommy Davidson/Halle Berry film Strictly Business, “B-Turn” peaked at #48 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

His sole album, Notes Of A Native Son, was a sadly overlooked album filled with positive afro-centric rhymes and the occasional detour into gangsta-isms.

We have no idea where Laquan is now, but when we’re feeling like taking a trip back to early 90’s new-jack-swing era hip-hop with an afrocentric edge (which is more often than you’d think), “Now’s The B-Turn” is one of the first tracks we play.
