Janet E. Jackson is  president and CEO of United Way of Central Ohio — one of the largest United Way organizations in the country.   Throughout her career, Janet has been a pioneer and a risk-taker.  She is the first woman and the first African American to head United Way of Central Ohio. In 1987, Janet was appointed to serve as a judge in the Franklin County Municipal Court, making her the first African-American female judge in Franklin County history.   In 1997, Janet was named Columbus City Attorney, a first for a woman in Columbus and a position she held for six years.  Later that same year she was elected to the office, a first for an African American.  Janet has devoted her life to service and believes it should be at the center of every person’s life.  Under her leadership, United Way is mobilizing our community to reach concrete ten-year Bold Goals that will dramatically improve lives and strengthen our community.
