Did you know that if you have AEP Electric you may have to foot the  bill to pay for the big blackout we had at the end of June?!!!   Even worse AEP pocketed a record profit of $1.9 Billion dollars for 2011!  So why should we cover the bill?  I don’t have an answer to this but several petitions have been started a petition against this.

This petition will be delivered to Governor Kasich, Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) and other top officials as an expression/plea from citizens to not have to cover these cost.  It’s been done in the past by AEP and it can be done again if action isn’t taken.  AEP will just raise the rates to cover the cost if approved.   So basically when you thought you were inconvenienced but at least saving on the light bill you could be dead WRONG!

Check out the petition and sign here if you agree.

We also found another petition for the same cause.

Plus you are being asked to call officials to express your concern.  Here are the contacts:

* AEP Director of Public Policy, Terri Flora @ (614) 883-7999

* PUCO Chairman, Todd Snitchler @ (800) 686-7826

* Senate Public Utilities Committee Chair, Shannon Jones @ (614) 466-9737

* House Public Utilities Committee Chair, Peter Stautberg @ (614) 644-6886

In addition to the petitions, there has been a facebook group formed Customers Against AEP.  You can check out their page here.

UPDATE: AEP has issued a statement in explanation of why they want you to cover the cost of the repairs.  Here is a link to that also
