COLUMBUS (Ken Hines) — A man is facing felony charges after beating his mother and 90-year-old grandmother, badly hurting each woman, according to police.

John Spindler is charged with assault after attacking his mother, Pam Haskins, 60, inside her Columbus living room on June 13. Haskins said her son assaulted her because she told him to get a job. “He kept hitting me in the face,” Haskins said. “I could feel my bones breaking.” While the attack was underway, Haskins’s 90-year-old mother tried to pull her grandson off her daughter, leading the assailant to throw the elderly woman to the ground, breaking her arm and hip, according to police. “She kept telling me, ‘Pam, I can’t get up,’ but I didn’t know she broke her hip,” Haskins said.

Haskins suffered a broken knows and other facial fractures in the attack. Her son allegedly punched her in the torso, despite the fact that she had previously suffered from lung cancer. Haskins hopes law enforcement officials can keep her son away from her home. “Anyone who could treat you like that, why bother to care about them? They don’t care about you.” she said.

Spindler was also charged with assaulting his grandmother in 2010. During that incident, the 41-year-old allegedly grabbed the woman’s hair, and violently shook her head. A judge set Spindler’s bail amount at $500,000. He has been ordered to stay away from his mother and grandmother.
