5 Songs With Freakier Lyrics Than "Blurred Lines"

Since Robin Thicke debuted the racy video for the funky summer jam “Blurred Lines, ” everyone has had an opinion about the song. While mostly everyone loves it, there are some critics who call the lyrics “rapey” and misogynistic. Robin has largely ignored the low rumblings of backlash until he was interviewed by BBC Radio 1. When he was asked about the criticism, blue-eyed-soul crooner said, “I’m not going to dignify that with a response.” However, he proceeded to respond.

Thicke explained that the concept of the video came from its director Diane Martel. Yes, a woman! “I had mentioned to her that I wanted to do a very funny and silly video. And she said, ‘well, what if we have the girls take their clothes off?’ And I said, ‘let’s make sure we shoot two versions, because I don’t want it to be sleazy.’ I’ve always been a gentleman; I’ve been in love with the same woman since I was a teenager. I don’t want to do anything that’s inappropriate,” he said.

Well, The Urban Daily happens to love “Blurred Lines” and we think the criticism is a little overblown because men have been singing about their bedroom freakiness since bedrooms were invented. Check out five songs with freakier lyrics than “Blurred Lines.”

Clarence Carter – “I Be Strokin’”

Freaky Lyric: “Let me tell you what she told me, she said/Stroke it , Clarence Carter, but don’t stroke it too fast/If the stuff ain’t tight enough, you can stick it up my ass”

This song came out in the ’70s when sex, drugs, and R&B were reaching their peaks. But to have a song talking about backdoor penetration played on the radio back then was still a tad too far. If you’re over 40 and you’ve sung at least one lyric from this, how can you have an issue with today’s raunchy sex and synthesiser type R&B?

George Michael – “I Want Your Sex”

Freaky Lyric: “What’s your definition of dirty baby/What do you consider pornography/Don’t you know I love you till it hurts me baby/Don’t you think it’s time you had sex with me”

When a person asks you about your definition of “dirty” and “pornography,” you know they are on some other stuff. Although George Michael’s ode to sex was talking about monogamy, it was still the freaky jam. Women all over the world were heartbroken when they realized the sex George Michael wanted was from the same sex.

Prince – “Soft & Wet”

Freaky Lyric: “Hey, lover, I got a sugarcane/That I wanna lose in you/Baby can you stand the pain”

Prince is the king of raunch&B. When a slow Prince song comes on, ladies come out of their undergarments and have no idea how they came off. That must be the reason they say don’t look him in the eye–you might walk away with no draws on.

R. Kelly – “Customer (Remix)”

Freaky Lyric: “Serve you up drive-thru style like McDonald’s./Yaaaa, you’ll be screaming yaaaa/The service so good it, it feels like you wanna cry/And shawty if you thirsty, I got some good, good lemonade”

R. Kelly is the modern-day Prince when it comes to writing freaky jams. The difference is R. Kelly will turn a wholesome family restaurant like McDonald’s into a place where the only food you’re getting is man meat. This joint is creepy because we all remember he had the child pornography case against him. In the case he was alleged to have given an underaged girl a golden shower. So could that “good, good lemonade” line be considered as a confession? Just asking.

Usher – “Lay You Down”

Freaky Lyric: “I’ll make your body come to me, pull you back when you try to run, baby/Baby I’ll go deep, open up if you’re ready for me to feed cha”

In one song Usher was telling his girl to point that bottom up in the air. I guess that was so he could do everything he was talking about on this bedroom steamer.
