Prosecutors are asking for Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas to be given three months in jail for bringing guns into the team’s locker room. Arenas pleaded guilty in January to a felony charge of carrying a pistol without a license following a locker room confrontation with teammate Javaris Crittenton during which guns were drawn. Arenas says that it was a joke gone bad, but prosecutors are accusing him of being a bully who was trying to assert his supremacy among his teammates. Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher R. Kavanaugh said in a memo to the court that Arenas gave inconsistent stories at first and has shown “little genuine remorse for anything other than how this incident may affect his career.” Kavanaugh added that if it were any other person without Arenas’ fame and wealth, “the government would seek their incarceration and the court would almost certainly give it.” The prosecutors also want three years’ probation and 300 hours of community service. Meanwhile, Crittenton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge after admitting to pulling his own gun in the locker room and has already been sentenced to a year of unsupervised probation. Both Crittenton and Arenas are suspended for the rest of the NBA season.
