It’s nearly approaching 1 p.m., and Casey Veggies is starving. He’s haplessly sulking in the corner of our NYC studios because he’s beyond famished. As he awaits our production team to set up our cameras, I crack a joke to help subside his pain. After a few quips, I mention the thought of Chipotle. Donning his patented Peas & Carrots t-shirt, he laughs and gushes at the sheer thought of demolishing his plate. You see, hunger is second nature to the California upstart.

Since the tender age of 14, Casey knew he wanted to pursue rap. While people were cramming a plethora of factoids for their next history quiz, Veggies was prepping his debut mixtape titled, Customized Greatly Vol. 1. He dazzled with his premiere project and continued to string together a bevy of bangers in the form of Customized Greatly Vol. 2 and Life Changes. His voracious grind caught the eye of Jay Z’s Roc Nation and that earned him a deal in 2012. In addition to his deal in 2012, he was signed to Epic Records and PUMA. Under the tutelage of Hov, Veggies blossomed into a young and formidable threat. After several setbacks, his debut album Live and Grow is finally seeing the day of light Sept. 25. The multi-faceted Veggies has showcased his musical versatility through a range of singles. “Backflip” is a bouncy club single which has a tinge of California in it, while “Tied Up,” finds Casey weaving together verses for a potential PYT. With those flavorful singles, the young and hungry Veggies is ready to cement himself along the upper echelon of emcees repping the West Coast.

We sat down with Veggies and he spoke about the origin of his love for music, the first verse he ever wrote, and he spits his favorite on his new album Live and Grow for #LastCall.
