The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that there are now a total of five people in the area confirmed with the Zika virus according to Columbus health officials.  The two latest diagnosed women both visited Puerto Rico and Nicaragua recently.  And after returning reported symptoms to their physicians.  One lady is in her 30’s and the other in her 60’s neither are currently pregnant.

So far, 59 Columbus residents and 34 other Franklin County residents have been tested. Twenty-three tests are pending results.

Statewide, there are 29 cases of Zika virus. One case was acquired through sexual transmission. – The Columbus Dispatch

One can contract the Zika virus after being bit by an infected mosquito.  The virus can be transmitted sexually and can cause birth defects if one is pregnant.
