Columbus State Community College closes downtown campus after reports of armed man Wednesday morning.

According to WBNS, a report of a man with a gun caused Columbus State Community College near downtown to issue an alert Wednesday.

The school put out an alert shortly after 10 a.m. reporting an armed man near the TL Building on Cleveland Avenue. The alert described the suspect as a black man in a brown jacket and black sweatpants.

CSCC says a student on the second floor of the building reported that there was a man ‘showing a gun’ and then that man left the building.

Columbus State Police evacuated and searched the building but did not find anyone fitting the man’s description. The TL building was cleared around 10:30 a.m. and students and staff were let back into the building.

Columbus Police and CSCC Police continue to search the area around the building and near downtown for the man who reportedly had a gun.

A phone call alert sent by CSCC erroneously stated there was an ‘active shooter’ on campus. The alert sent via text and posted on Columbus State’s social media pages stated there was a report of a man with a gun.
